WindFarm 3D WindFarm 3D provides a 3D-visualisation of the landscape surrounding your wind farm site. Photomontages are an important means of assessing the visual impact of a wind farm, but increasing use is being made of graphically generated 3D-visualisations, particularly to provide real-time fly-throughs. The landscape is the most important part of a 3D visualisation and it is formed in WindFarm 3D by draping an aerial photograph over a wire frame created from the height data. The visual quality of the 3D landscape will be determined primarily by the quality and resolution of the aerial photograph. These are becoming generally available; for example, 0.5m resolution is available for most of the UK. However, it has been found that 1m resolution is generally suitable. The major advance of 3D-visualisation software is the ability to model artefacts in the landscape. So in WindFarm 3D not just turbines, but also forests, trees, hedges and buildings can be added in a straightforward manner, giving the permitting authorities an improved vision of the proposed development. The detail represented is only limited by the time employed in creating the overall scene.
