Radar

The Radar module of WindFarm creates maps of the ceiling heights of single and multiple radars. The ceiling height is the height above ground level that is visible to the radar. The lowest ceiling height will be displayed when there are multiple radars.

  • Create maps of radar ceilings with the results displayed on top of a background map Radar1Small click here
  • Create maps of radar ceilings due to multiple radars (a background map can be used)  click here
  • The effect of the Earth's curvature and atmospheric refraction is included

  • Export the image for additional processing to use for planning

  • Run statistics, landscape sections, and turbine ceilings (for a selected layout) can be shown and exported

It should be recognised that only the topography is normally used in the calculation (sometimes called "bald Earth"), ignoring the effects of trees, buildings or other structures, and therefore representing the theoretical maximum visibility of turbines to the radar. However, interference zones can be specified where features other than the landscape obscure the radar. For example, a forest may be defined and given a height of 20m. Not only will the radar ceiling be modified where the zone affects a region, but the ceiling height will be modified inside the interference zone to be at least the zone height.
